The eyes are among the first areas of the body that can begin to show signs of aging. For some people, these signs can start to appear in their early- to mid-twenties, well before they have approached middle age. Under eye circles are particularly common among the premature signs of aging. Fortunately, eyelid surgery offers a potentially ideal, minimally invasive solution.
Lower eyelid surgery can help to reduce the appearance of under eye circles, restoring fresh, youthful, vibrant skin that is smooth and radiant. When performed by a skilled and experienced plastic surgeon such as Dr. Brian Kobienia, lower eyelid surgery leaves patients looking alert and refreshed, as though they had managed to get the greatest night’s sleep of their lives, one that somehow turned back the clocks a few years and melted away about 75 percent of the stress from their lives. Dr. Kobienia produces such natural-looking results when performing lower eyelid surgery for under eye circles at his Edina plastic surgery center that many of his patients show no signs of having undergone a surgical procedure. It simply remains “their little secret.”

About Blepharoplasty
Blepharoplasty is the clinical name for eyelid surgery. It can be performed on the upper eyelids, lower eyelids, or both, depending on the individual needs of the patient. As long as the patient is dealing only with under eye circles and there is no drooping of the upper eye lids, lower blepharoplasty is usually sufficient to achieving the desired rejuvenation.
The procedure itself is relatively simple. Dr. Kobienia makes tiny incisions in the natural folds of the lower eyelids. Through these incisions, he removes excess fatty tissues and redistributes the remaining fat to plump up the hollow regions responsible for the appearance of under eye circles. Once this process is complete, he closes the incisions, and the procedure is complete. Blepharoplasty is an outpatient procedure, meaning that patients are able to return home on the day of the surgery. Because it is a minimally invasive procedure, the healing time is relatively brief, and any discomfort is minimal and can usually be controlled through over-the-counter or prescription pain relievers. Results reveal themselves after swelling and bruising subside, usually after a couple of weeks.
Many patients are content with the facial rejuvenation they achieve through lower blepharoplasty on its own; however, the procedure can be combined with other procedures, including injectable treatments such as BOTOX® Cosmetic, brow lift, upper eyelid surgery, and even various types of face lift surgery. Dr. Kobienia customizes all of his procedures to meet the unique needs and goals of his individual patients to ensure the best, most aesthetically pleasing and natural-looking results possible.
