As early as your 20s, you may start to notice fine wrinkling on your face. Some of the most noticeable wrinkles often appear between the eyebrows, around the eyes, and on the forehead. These are the exact regions of the face that BOTOX® Cosmetic and Dysport® treat. These types of wrinkles are known as “dynamic wrinkles” and result from repeated facial movements.
Dr. Brian Kobienia has treated hundreds of men and women with BOTOX and Dysport. He is a board-certified plastic surgeon who has a deep understanding of facial anatomy and this helps him to place the injections in areas where they will be most effective. Some of the most common reasons to consider starting BOTOX Cosmetic or its increasingly popular alternative, Dysport, include:
- Lines on the sides of the eyes, commonly called crow’s feet
- Frown lines between the eyebrows, also known as “11’s” due to their shape
- Horizontal forehead lines caused by repeated facial expressions
After treatment, most of our patients see remarkably smoother skin within about 2 to 7 days. These results typically last for about 3 to 4 months before a follow-up treatment is needed to maintain results.

BOTOX & Dysport Compared
One of the most frequent questions we get is whether BOTOX or Dysport will be a better treatment options for a person’s wrinkles. The truth is that the products are very similar, but have subtle differences that may lead to one or the other being a better option in a variety of circumstances.
BOTOX Cosmetic – Reduces the appearance of wrinkles and may prevent future wrinkles. Can be used throughout the body, but is particularly effective for treating glabellar (between the eyebrows) lines and lines around the mouth.
Dysport – Like BOTOX Cosmetic, Dysport relaxes and prevents the contraction of muscles that form wrinkles. Used primarily in the face to treat glabellar (between the eyebrows) and frown lines.
While both of these neuromodulators can work wonders in erasing dynamic wrinkles, results after Dysport treatments usually appear a bit faster than those of BOTOX. Dysport may spread out a bit farther from the original injection site, so if a very precise or targeted wrinkle treatment is needed, BOTOX may be best.
You don’t need to do a lot of research and deliberation about which injectable will be best for you. Dr. Kobienia and his staff are happy to review your facial anatomy and cosmetic concerns, and provide a treatment recommendation. Regardless of which injectable is chosen, the goal is to achieve significant and lasting wrinkle reduction.
Your Treatment Experience
One of the biggest areas of appeal of BOTOX and Dysport treatments is the ease and simplicity of your office visit. These are true “lunch hour” treatments that can be safely injected in just minutes, and leave you with no immediate visible signs of treatments nor cause any downtime.
Before your treatment, we may apply a topical numbing cream to maximize comfort during the injections. The syringe of BOTOX or Dysport is injected into specific areas of the face where unwanted wrinkling is present, generally the frown lines between the brows, lines on the forehead, and crow’s feet on the sides of the eyes.
BOTOX and Dysport injections only take about 15 to 30 minutes and there’s no downtime. Some of our patients may experience brief, mild swelling, pinkness or bruising around the injection sites, but this should not be significant enough to prevent you from carrying on with your day’s usual activities. We advise not rubbing or massaging the treated areas for at least 24 hours after your treatment to avoid spreading the product.

How much are BOTOX/Dysport injections?
BOTOX and Dysport injections are measured in units and how many units are necessary for your desired treatment can vary greatly. Your total cost for an injection treatment not only depends on the amount of units used, but also on the experience of the provider and your geographic location. When choosing BOTOX or Dysport injections, keep in mind that you are investing in your appearance, and, while some providers may offer discounted treatments, if a price seems too good to be true, this should be an immediate red flag and could result in poor results. Instead of focusing on price, it is best to find a qualified provider that can provide you with quality results.
How do I find a qualified BOTOX/Dysport provider near me?
When choosing a provider for injectables, such as BOTOX and Dysport, it is essential that you find a provider with experience that can provide you with before and after photos highlighting similar results to those you want. Find a provider that you are comfortable with and clearly addresses your concerns.
Am I a candidate for BOTOX/Dysport injections?
The ideal candidate for BOTOX or Dysport injections have what are known as dynamic wrinkles on their face.
