Why Fall Is the Perfect Time for a Nose Job

woman in fall scene

Rhinoplasty is a cosmetic surgical procedure that addresses the size, shape, and proportions of the nose.  If you have considered rhinoplasty, you may have asked yourself “What is the best season for a nose job?” While you may schedule rhinoplasty procedures any time of year, there are many benefits for choosing a rhinoplasty procedure in autumn.

Keeps You Out of the Sun

As the warm, sunny days of summer come to an end and our Minnesota winters start appearing on the horizon, you’ll naturally find yourself spending less time out in the sun. This change in sunlight helps reduce your exposure to UV light from the sun which can increase post-surgical swelling. In addition, after rhinoplasty, your skin may be numb or more sensitive, meaning your risk is increased for sunburn or discoloration of the skin on your nose. Avoiding sun exposure helps promote less scarring and better results. Dr. Kobienia recommends avoiding sun exposure for a minimum of 2 weeks after rhinoplasty, which is much easier to follow as the colder temperatures of fall take over.

Cooler Temps Help Recovery

The lack of sun and cooler temperatures not only reduces your risk of sunburn and UV exposure, but also helps reduce potential swelling and bruising during recovery. Colder temperatures help constrict blood vessels in the skin that reduce the swelling and bruising which is common after rhinoplasty.

Recover Just in Time for the Holidays

Early fall not only has benefits when it comes to your recovery, but it also allows you to heal and recover just in time for the winter holidays. Within a few weeks, the bruising should resolve, and the majority of the swelling goes away, revealing initial results just in time for your holiday celebrations. While final results can take up to a year to fully reveal themselves, you should still be ready to show off your new features.

Whether you have just decided rhinoplasty is for you or you have been considering it for some time, the fall season offers the best time to schedule your procedure. Keep in mind, this is often a time when the majority of candidates choose to schedule their procedures, so it is important to plan early.
