Every good sailor takes time to do maintenance on their ship. Barnacles, zebra mussells, and other growths may become unwelcome hangers-on on the sloop bottom. Every year scraping the barnacles off the boat is a dreaded springtime ritual.
Skin cancers grow on your skin like barnacles on a boat. Doctors are noticing more skin cancers in younger and younger patients. May is Skin Cancer Awareness Month. Skin cancer remains the most common form of cancer in the United States. These cancers are typically preventable. Since sun exposure is the most common cause – sun avoidance is the easiest way to prevent skin cancer.
Early detection is key for successful treatment of skin cancer. Topical ointments, destructive medications, and surgical excision are typical treatments. But you have to find the buggars first!
Careful skin checks by an experienced eye is a must. So find your first mate and check your barnacles!
Psst…Booking a visit with your skin care professional at Edina Skin Care is excellent resource for skin checks.
