The face is exposed to wind, UV rays, and other harsh environmental elements on a regular basis. This, combined with the loss of elasticity that occurs as a person ages, can lead to loose facial skin. The cheeks are particularly prone to signs of aging. Drooping cheeks can make a person look unhappy, worn down, or simply older than his or her actual age.
At our plastic surgery practice, Dr. Brian J. Kobienia offers a range of cosmetic treatments for drooping cheeks. Facial rejuvenation can lift and define facial features, like the cheeks, so that our Minneapolis, MN, patients enjoy a more youthful appearance. The specific treatment plan that is right for each patient will depend primarily on personal needs and desires, but Dr. Kobienia is happy to help patients understand all of their cosmetic options.
Injectables
Injectables are a great cosmetic treatment for our Edina patients who want to avoid surgery, or for those who are looking to enhance the results of surgery. Cosmetic injectables are administered through a series of strategically placed shots. Some injectables stop muscle contractions to prevent wrinkles. However, the injectables used to treat drooping cheeks are meant to restore volume to depleted facial features.
There are several injectables that can be effective for drooping cheeks, including Restylane®, Perlane®, and Juvéderm®. The results of injectable treatment are temporary, but they can last for up to six to 12 months before touch-up treatment is needed.
Cheek Augmentation
Cheek augmentation is a cosmetic surgery procedure that uses implants to fill out and define the cheeks. During treatment, a solid implant is placed over the cheekbone. The implant not only fills out the cheeks, but it can also give them a firmer, higher appearance. However, it is important to note that no skin is actually lifted or removed during a cheek augmentation procedure, so this technique may not be appropriate for patients with significant sagging.
Mini Facelift
A mini facelift specifically addresses loose, saggy skin along the lower third of the face. This treatment lifts and tightens the skin along the cheeks, jowls, chin, and neck. During this procedure, excess skin is removed and tissues are moved upward and outward to smooth out wrinkles and address sagging. A mini facelift is not as extensive as a full facelift, but it can effectively treat drooping cheeks to restore a more refreshed and youthful appearance.
Full Facelift
A full facelift is a more extensive version of a mini facelift. A full facelift treats the middle of the face and the lower third of the face. This procedure may be recommended to our Minneapolis patients who are concerned with drooping cheeks, and deep lines and creases along the nose, mouth, or jowls. A facelift eliminates excess skin and tissues, repairs facial muscles, and re-drapes remaining skin to give patients smoother, more defined facial features. A full facelift lifts drooping cheeks and can take years off a person’s appearance.
