View On GoogleAm I a Good Facelift Candidate?
Most healthy adults are good candidates for plastic surgery, especially if they exhibit significant signs of aging. Men and women over the age of 40 make up a large percentage of facelift candidates. However, these factors may disqualify you from undergoing facelift surgery:
- Unhealthy lifestyle
- Weight fluctuations
- Blood clotting issues
- Smoking
- Insufficient skin elasticity
- Unrealistic expectations
Dr. Kobienia wants all of his patients to achieve their cosmetic goals. If he determines that a facelift is not right for you, he may recommend a different treatment, such as a neck lift, blepharoplasty, or injectables.
Are There Different Kinds of Facelifts?
Yes. Some facelift surgeries only rejuvenate specific areas of the face. For example, a "mini facelift" focuses on the neck and jawline. On the other hand, a full facelift can tighten and refresh everything from your cheeks to your neck, making it ideal for patients who have heavy jowls.
Dr. Kobienia will listen carefully to your cosmetic desires and suggest the right surgical approach for achieving your goals. His expertise allows him to incorporate aspects of mini facelifts, neck lifts, and other procedures into one treatment, resulting in personalized results. He uses only the latest techniques in cosmetic surgery, so you can trust that you will receive the best available care at our state-of-the-art surgical center in Edina.
How Is a Facelift Performed?
How Long Does Recovery Take?
Dr. Kobienia will do everything he can to make your recovery as pain-free and comfortable as possible. On average, healing takes one to four weeks, but it can take a few months for you to see your full, final results. In some cases, it can take up to a year for swelling to completely subside. Normally, you can go back to work after about 10 days.
Here's what to expect during the recovery period:
Week 1
It's important to rest as much as possible this week, but you'll still come in for a follow-up visit so Dr. Kobienia and his trained staff can examine your incisions and change or remove your bandages. Days three and four will see the most swelling and bruising, but those issues should start to subside. You probably won't require pain medication after day five.
Week 2
You'll start feeling a lot better during week two. Swelling and bruising will subside even more, although you may feel some tingling and numbness in the surgical areas. This is common. Light walking is permitted, and you might even consider going back to work around day 10 as long as you don't have a job that involves a lot of physical activity.
Weeks 3 and 4
If they haven't already, sutures may be removed during this period. You should now be seeing an exciting, positive change in how your face looks as the swelling continues to go down. You can start regular exercise again and resume all of your normal daily activities.
Week 5
By this point, your life should be completely back to normal. It's time to once again put your best face forward in your personal and professional life. Whatever residual facial swelling that remains will be difficult for anyone to notice, and it will continue to disappear as time goes on. Dr. Kobienia and his staff wish you well as you enjoy your new, reinvigorated appearance.
