Breast Augmentation Revision to Get Bigger Implants

Breast Implant Revision

Sometimes when patients get breast implants placed, the results are not what they expected. Such is the case when they get breast implants that are too small for their frame. It’s true that being conservative with breast implant size may be preferable in some instances, but sometimes one can pick implants that are too small and take an approach that is too conservative. The result is patient regret and dissatisfaction.

Thankfully there’s something that can be done to address these issues. The team at our Edina plastic surgery center would like to consider breast augmentation surgery that corrects and enhances the results of a previous breast implant procedure. This is known as breast augmentation revision.

What Is Breast Augmentation Revision Surgery?

Breast augmentation revision surgery refers to breast enhancement procedures that correct a previous breast enlargement. In this case, it’s possible to change the size of a previous breast augmentation by removing small breast implants and placing larger ones. Patients are able to achieve a fuller bustline and enhanced overall appearance in the process.

For patients who were not satisfied with their previous surgery, the revision procedure allows them to achieve their aesthetic goals.

Candidates for Breast Implant Revision

Good candidates for breast implant revision are patients who were not pleased with the results of their previous breast augmentation procedure. They should be in good health overall and not suffer from medical issues that could make the surgery a risk to overall wellness. Patients should be made aware of all risks and benefits associated with this procedure as well to help with patient expectations and overall satisfaction with the results achieved.

During a consultation, we can determine if you are ideally suited for a breast augmentation revision.

Picking the Right Size for the Larger Breast Implants

The question that most patients and surgeons need to address in these revision procedures is just how large they’re willing to go with their breast implants. It’s possible to go too large, leading to other issues with dissatisfaction.

Surgeons will note the goals of the patient and also consider the patient’s body type, existing measurements, and other physical features to ensure the larger implants are complementary and look natural. Plastic surgeons can also discuss shape, composition, and position of the breast implants to help properly tailor the results of the revision procedure to the needs of the patient.

What to Expect During Revision Surgery

During breast implant revision, surgeons try to use the same incision sites from the previous surgery if possible. The old breast implants are carefully removed, and new implants are placed. If new incision must be made for the revision procedure, all attempts are made to keep the incisions as small as possible.

Recovery from the revision procedure will be just like the recovery process from a traditional breast augmentation surgery.

The Results of Breast Implant Revision

The results of breast implant revision can be quite dramatic, with patients finally achieving the aesthetic goals they initially set out to achieve. Many patients who undergo revision surgery are extremely satisfied with the work that’s been done and how their curves and contours have been enhanced by this corrective process.
