Breast Implant Profiles: Low, Moderate, and High By Brian Kobienia, MD, FACS on June 01, 2014

A woman with her arms outstretchedOne of the most appealing aspects of breast augmentation surgery is that it can be customized to degrees that many other plastic surgery procedures cannot. Women who enhance their breasts with implants have a variety of options at their disposal, each of which gives them even greater control over their final outcome. Especially when performed by a plastic surgeon as skilled, experienced, and artistically gifted as Dr. Brian Kobienia, patients can look forward to amazingly beautiful and natural-looking results that can last for years.

At Kobienia Plastic Surgery in Edina, breast implant profiles are among the many elements of breast augmentation that can be adjusted to give patients the precise results they desire. During one-on-one consultations with breast augmentation candidates, Dr. Kobienia listens carefully to their goals, assesses their body types, and advises them honestly about their options and the benefits and potential disadvantages of each. He realizes how important and life-altering a decision undergoing breast augmentation can be, and he wants his patients to make the most confident and informed choices possible.

Breast Implant Profile Options

The profile of the breast implant determines the angle at which the implant protrudes from the chest and has as much influence over the final appearance of the breasts as implant size and shape.

There are three basic types of breast implant profiles available:

  • Low: Low profile breast implants tend to be the most natural looking as they most closely resemble the profile of most natural breasts. While low profile implants may not appear as “perky” as some women may wish, they are often excellent choices for women with wider body frames or women who want to achieve more subtle enlargement of their breasts without completely transforming their natural shape.
  • Moderate: This is the most popular choice among patients in general. Moderate profile breast implants create the full, shapely look to which many women aspire without looking artificial. These implants are often particularly well suited to women with smaller breasts who wish to widen the appearance of their busts, bringing the chest region into better proportion with the rest of their bodies.
  • High: This type of profile is often associated with the “model with a perfect body, including breasts that probably aren’t natural, but who cares?” look. Obviously, this is a popular look among models and some actresses; however, it may not be the most suitable option for everybody. Some women coming into our practice think that they want to achieve this look, but after speaking with Dr. Kobienia realize that they want to achieve more natural-looking results. Nevertheless, for women who do want their breasts to be larger yet still project high off of their chests, this would be the implant profile of choice.

Whatever your needs and goals, Dr. Kobienia will work with you to ensure the most exquisite results possible. You can rest assured that you will be entrusting your breast augmentation to a true artist who will put your safety, comfort, and overall satisfaction first.
