Understanding Rhinoplasty and its Benefits
When some people hears the term "cosmetic surgery" they immediately think of specific procedure such as the nose job. Otherwise known as rhinoplasty, a nose job is a form of corrective or cosmetic surgery that focuses specifically on the appearance or function of the nose.
Interestingly enough many people do not realize that rhinoplasty can also help someone who has a history of difficulty with breathing through their nose, and the same reshaping techniques used in cosmetic procedures will apply for their needs too. In addition to providing support with breathing, an aesthetic nose job can resize, reshape or simply improve the overall looks of the face and the nose.
The extent of the work to be done will usually categorize the nose job as “open” or “closed”, with the open variant considered the most extensive and invasive. This does not mean that it is more effective than the closed procedure, however, but indicates that major reshaping is the focus of the surgery.
It is important to understand that most major rhinoplasty procedures will usually require a revision or secondary surgery, with the exception of the closed procedures which tend to be accomplished with one operation. There are also options for fillers to be injected in order to provide temporary improvements to the look of the nose as well.
Clearly such a diversity of options and choices means that a patient will have to have a very serious discussion with their surgeon about their needs and desired results. Most cosmetic and corrective rhinoplasty surgeries come with a significant recovery time, and if the work is going to require more than a single procedure there will be the need to plan for that as well.
Fortunately, a good plastic surgeon will be able to work with the patient to assess their needs and can often combine several treatments into a single time frame.
